Want to Work for Us? Updates, Spring 2014

cc_artgalleryThe reading period for our Spring 2014 issue is now over, and we’re completely honoured and humbled to say we’ve received nearly 700 submissions since last June!

If you submitted work to us and have not yet received a response, we’ll keep your piece in the queue (unless you withdraw it from our submissions manager) to be considered for Fall 2014.

A big “thank you” to every writer, poet, and artist who submitted work for our consideration. Choosing just the right combination of pieces, in addition to coordinating some fantastic features for the forthcoming issue, has been a great deal of work for our team.

We can’t divulge our list of contributors just yet, but do keep an eye out for that soon.

Want to Join Compose Journal’s Masthead?

We’re currently looking for an assistant editor and an assistant managing editor to join our team.

Assistant Editor: Assistant editors, along with senior editors, use our submissions management system to read and assess work for possible publication in the journal. Sometimes AEs are asked to offer feedback on submissions that require multiple perspectives during the editing stage. Time commitment: 2-3 hours per week.

Assistant Managing Editor: We’re looking for someone to assist with administrative duties around the journal. Our assistant managing editor could be doing anything from issuing publication agreements, to downloading and resizing artwork for our journal, to creating galleys  for our contributors, to helping keep our social media up to date. Experience working with WordPress is required, and a basic understanding of html code is preferred. Time commitment: 2-3 hours per week.

We are a free publication and charge no reading fees, so Compose is entirely run by volunteers. Editors contribute their time because they love literature, and because they want to support the arts while also gaining valuable experience working in a literary environment.

There is no geographical requirement for these positions; everything is done electronically.

If you’re interested in joining our masthead, please contact Suzannah Windsor, Managing Editor, at editor [at] composejournal [dot] com, and include information about your experience, and why you think you’d be a good fit for our team.

Expressions of interest will be considered until March 10, 2014.
